Sharing a great article about the importance of leaders and volunteers in scouting. Volunteers are an essential part of scouting around the world. Do you have a skill you could share? Please contact us at [email protected].
Continue scrolling for a Japanese translation of the article. https://www.thepeterboroughexaminer.com/.../it-takes-a...

(Repost from Nagoya English Language Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops dated 1/16/2021)
Now that Aichi has been added to the prefectures restricted by the National State of Emergency, Pack 758 and Troop 758 are taking even more precautions with our meetings to ensure that everyone stays safe. It’s sad that we cannot meet in person, but our leaders are coming up with various ideas to keep the scouts working on their skills. (Editor's update: Aichi Prefecture is still in a State of Emergency as of Sept. 2021) Our Cub Scouts will be learning about the mechanics for making an awesome Pine Wood Derby car from some professional engineers. The Derby has been postponed by a month, but soon they will be able to show off their cars and race. Our Boy Scouts are working on their scouting skills with a miniature pioneering project contest. Who can make the coolest camping gadget with bbq skewers and thread or dental floss? Are you looking for activities for your children while you stay at home? Check out this site for some ideas. https://scoutlife.org/.../funstuff/167895/indoor-activities/ We hope that all our readers and followers will continue to follow the guidelines for safety (wear a mask, wash your hands, gargle, socially distance). Hopefully, with everyone’s cooperation, we will be able to celebrate spring under the cherry blossoms and hold more in-person scouting events. If you would like more information about scouting in Nagoya, please send us a direct message or an email to [email protected]. The scouts go hiking! The weather was perfect this last weekend for a hike through one of Nagoya City's local nature reserves. The scouts hiked about 3 miles while each scout performed a leadership role and helped his den by serving as a leader.
Itaka no Mori used to be a valley used for rice fields and other farming. There are still forests of Quercus crispula, cedar and cypress trees, bamboo forests, and agricultural reservoirs. Many wild birds, insects, flowers, plants, badger dogs, weasels, hares, and other plants and animals can be found here. It is an important area where they can grow and rest. Pack 758 Nagoya started up in the fall of 2015. We were a small Pack of ten scouts led by leaders determined to show young boys the fun world of scouting. We weren't Nagoya's first Boy Scouts of America or Girl Scouts of America troops. During the 1960s to late 1970s, there were Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts at Nagoya International School (NIS). In those days, there were many missionary families living in the Nagoya area, and most of the kids participated in scouting.
Those troops closed down when the foreign population declined. Fast forward to 2015 when our new troops started up. We had just ten scouts and parents who had no idea what to do. We all volunteered and learned how to scout along with our scouts. 2020, in the times of Covid-19, Pack 758 has started our sixth year of scouting with more than 20 scouts. The first Tiger scout has crossed over to Boy Scouts. The first Webelos scouts have earned their Eagle Rank. |
