The scouts go hiking! The weather was perfect this last weekend for a hike through one of Nagoya City's local nature reserves. The scouts hiked about 3 miles while each scout performed a leadership role and helped his den by serving as a leader.
Itaka no Mori used to be a valley used for rice fields and other farming. There are still forests of Quercus crispula, cedar and cypress trees, bamboo forests, and agricultural reservoirs. Many wild birds, insects, flowers, plants, badger dogs, weasels, hares, and other plants and animals can be found here. It is an important area where they can grow and rest.

Pack 758 Nagoya started up in the fall of 2015. We were a small Pack of ten scouts led by leaders determined to show young boys the fun world of scouting. We weren't Nagoya's first Boy Scouts of America or Girl Scouts of America troops. During the 1960s to late 1970s, there were Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts at Nagoya International School (NIS). In those days, there were many missionary families living in the Nagoya area, and most of the kids participated in scouting.
Those troops closed down when the foreign population declined. Fast forward to 2015 when our new troops started up. We had just ten scouts and parents who had no idea what to do. We all volunteered and learned how to scout along with our scouts. 2020, in the times of Covid-19, Pack 758 has started our sixth year of scouting with more than 20 scouts. The first Tiger scout has crossed over to Boy Scouts. The first Webelos scouts have earned their Eagle Rank. |
